Drivers, must obtain a Class F endorsement from Tennessee Driver Services. In order to obtain a Class F endorsement, a driver must demonstrate Tennessee residency and pass the Class F endorsement test.
In order to receive a Class F endorsement you must be at least 18 years old. You also must have at least two years of unrestricted driving experience, demonstrate fitness of character and be driving a Class D automobile, as opposed to a commercial truck.
Tennessee Driver Services requires applicants for Class F endorsement to provide proof of citizenship or lawful resident status, by providing either a birth certificate issued by a U.S. state, a valid passport, permanent alien resident card or a stamped Form I-94. You also must provide a photo ID (current driver license) and a Social Security card. You must provide two examples of documents proving Tennessee residency, such as a utility bill, bank statement or voter registration with a Tennessee address.
To assist individuals in obtaining a Class F endorsement, Tennessee Driver Services publishes a handbook and study guide for test takers. If you already have a valid Tennessee driver’s license, you are only required to pass a knowledge and vision test. If you do not have a valid Tennessee driver’s license, you must pass a knowledge, vision and driving test. The knowledge test is a 25-question multiple choice test, for which a passing score is at least 20 questions answered correctly. As of 2011, the fee for obtaining a Class F endorsement is $4.50.
